Long-tailed Tit - Aegithalos caudatus Aegithalos caudatus

 

Size: 5.5 inches (14 cm) including 3 inch tail
Habitat: Woodland, hedgerows, parks and farmland
Feeding: Mostly insects but some seeds
Eggs: 8 - 12 white eggs with red/brown speckles
laid from late March - early May, incubation 16 days

These beautiful little birds are probably my favourites. They are like little fluffy pompoms with a long tail.

The long-tailed tit is quite easy to identify because of its long, thin, black and white tail which is longer than it's body. The head has black and white stripes and the rest of the plumage is pink, black and white with pale underparts.

These birds are mostly seen in groups.
