The Marsh tit is very similar to the Willow tit. In fact, it is almost impossible to tell them apart except for their call.

The Marsh tit is small with a black glossy cap and bib. The upper parts are grey-brown and under parts, buff. The Willow tit has a less glossy black cap, a slightly thicker neck and a less neat appearance.

The sexes are the same.
