Male Pheasant |
|
|
|
The pheasant was originally introduced from the Caucasus
region of Asia.
The male has spectacular colouring with copper plumage over
most of its body and tail and with a very colourful red and
blue head and neck.
The female is smaller and less colourful - a lighter brown
with dark mottling.
Pheasants are game birds and many are bred and released into
the wild every year for the shooting season.
