Escallonia is a native of South America. The leaves are deep,
glossy green and the variety we have in the garden is
evergreen.
The flowers are tubular with five rounded lobes. They come
in a variety of shades of pink and red.
We have found that this shrub thrives in the garden although
in more northerly locations it should be planted in a
sheltered spot. It is a good hedging plant as it is
fast-growing, evergreen and grows well in any well-drained
soil.
