Silver Birch

The silver birch is a very adaptable tree and grows in a wide variety of conditions - cold, warm, wet, dry.

It grows quite quickly but has a shorter lifespan than many other trees, lasting a maximum of 60 to 80 years, often less.

The bark is a distinctive silver/white with grey bands, but sheds layers leaving darker patches. The wood is not very strong so is usually used in veneers, plywood, etc.

The leaves are small and almost triangular.
