Gatekeeper Butterfly
(Female) |
|
|
The Gatekeeper, sometimes known as Hedge Brown, is easily
mistaken for the Meadow
Brown. However, it is usually much more orange and the
eye spots have two white pupils.
The photo above shows a female. The male has more brown
markings in the orange of its forewings, as in the photo
below.
It can usually be found in woodland, hedgerows and gardens
especially on bramble blossom.
